ELIA Director Election, 8-15 September

ELIA is very pleased to present the following candidates for the three two-year ELIA Director positions open for the 2010 election. Each is quite qualified and would be welcome additions to the Board. This year's candidates are a great mix of returning Directors (Susan West and Karla Bauerova), past directors looking to return (Jurek Nedoma and Dejan Stankovic) and three new candidates (Alex Burrough, David Matuska and Christian Schwendy). Please take a look and familiarize yourself with their faces and qualifications to lead ELIA for the next two years in preparation for the election which will take place 8-15 September and results will be announced on 16 September. The new Board will officially take office on 12 October 2010 after the ELIA 2010 AGM in Dublin.

Additional information on each candidate is available at the Candidates for 2010 Election of ELIA Directors webpage. Additional information on how to vote will be sent out to this email address closer to the time voting opens. The ballot will be available online begining at 08:00 CET on Wednesday 8 September at http://www.elia-association.org/index.php?id=ballot.

When the new Directors assume their positions on the ELIA Board it will be an historic moment. This will be the first Board without ELIA President and founder Roberto Ganzerli of Arancho after more that six years of leading the association. Although Roberto has chosen to leave the Board, he will continue to participate in ELIA activities as Past President. Peter Brabazon of Transatlantic Translations will also be stepping down after three years of service. They both deserve our thanks and gratitude.

Bull’s Eye Volunteers

The program for the Bull's Eye: The Sales Pitch session on Tuesday 12 October at ELIA’s ND Dublin is finally set. Of the six member companies that volunteered to make a presentation before the Bull's Eye panel and the audience, two companies were chosen. Christian Schwendy of Gemino and Françoise Bajon of Version Internationale. Each will be pitching their respective companies to a group of experts to convince them they should work with their company and not the competition. Then the fun will begin. The panel will comment on the presentations and then discussion will be opened up to the audience. Inga Kononenko of Promova was selected to be the alternate.

We wish to thank member companies Afford, Avalon and Lido-Lang for being willing to subject one of their employees to this "test".

ELIA Member Survey

An online survey will be made available beginning 8 September, at the same time as when the voting for the ELIA Directors opens. We seek to discover basic data such as the size, resources, number of employees, turnover and marketing information about our members. The data collected will provide a great snapshot of ELIA companies for the period of 2009-2010 and will be made available to ELIA members once tabulated. The names of participating companies will be kept completely confidential.

This collection of questions represents the collective work of ELIA members Oana Dorabantu (Casa de Traduceri) and Marek Gawrysiak (TextPartner) and ELIA Board members Laurentiu Constantin (New Compass Services) and Renato Beninatto (Milengo). Thank you all for your contributions.

The survey will be located at http://www.elia-association.org/index.php?id=survey0910.
