Chief Connector, Common Sense Advisory

Renato has nearly a quarter-century of executive-level experience in the localization industry and since 2002 has been conducting research and leading the consulting practice of Common Sense Advisory. His activities include teaching localization-related courses in U.S. and European Universities, and training professionals in workshops and seminars.

Renato has served on the executive teams for some of the industry's most prominent companies, like Alpnet Inc. and Berlitz GlobalNET. He is a frequent speaker and has made presentations and keynote speeches all over the US and Europe.

Bogi Örn Emilsson
General Manager, Skjal

Bogi (pronounced Boy-ee) has over 15 years experience in marketing and management. After a successful 3-year period working as a sales representative, he spent a year in Kenya teaching English and physics. He returned to Iceland in 1997 and spent a number of years in sales and marketing management before establishing Skjal Translations in 2000. He initially managed the new company alongside an IT company and provided IT consultancy services, but he now devotes his working time to running Skjal, which has grown to become Iceland’s leading localisation service provider with offices in Reykjavík and Portugal . Bogi took a seat on ELIA’s Board of Directors in 2008, and was appointed Vice President towards the end of that year.

Michèle Hecker Michèle Hecken
President and CEO, Alpha Translations Canada

Michèle is the founder and President of Alpha Translations Canada Inc., an international agency with representatives in Canada and Germany. Michèle drove over 200% growth in her first 4 consecutive years in business. While leading Alpha Translations to multi-million dollar revenue, Michèle also raised her 2 daughters as a single mom!

Michèle guides her 15 person team, selecting from a world-wide network of over 800 translators, to service clients which include 30 of the world's top 40 law firms, international banks, and Fortune 1000 companies. Michèle will share her insights on how to create a killer business plan and budget to propel your company forward.

A member of the Women Presidents Organization since 2002, and Entrepreneurs Organization in 2006, Michèle will share her 5 must-do tips to create and sustain growth.

Frank ter Reehorst
General Manager, Scriptware

Starting with IBM after an MBA graduate at the Rotterdam school of Management, Frank worked in marketing and management positions in a number of international companies from IT to casual wear clothing. When joining Scriptware late nineties he saw the need for industry change. After taking over the company in 2003, Frank co-founded DocZone.com and realized a unique new Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) venture in the US and Europe by integrating CMS and localization functionality. As of end 2008, Scriptware offers another SaaS-like portal called TransiBar, a translations webshop with full workflow capabilities for clients, project manager and translators. In a changing localization industry, Frank’s focus is on changing the company and the business model.
